MN Biz Leaders to Help Pick New Carlson School Dean

The search committee includes several local business leaders, including Bruce Beckman, chief financial officer of General Mills, Lynn Casey, CEO of Padilla Speer Beardsley and Reath Clark King, former president and executive director of the General Mills Foundation.

Research has officially begun for the next dean of the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and the team assembled to find the next leader of the school consists of several local business leaders.

The University of Minnesota announced Tuesday that Thomas Sullivan, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, has launched an international search committee to find the next dean of Carlson. Mary Nichols, Dean of the College of the University continuing education and a Carlson School professor, will chair the search committee. William Van Dyke, former chairman of Donaldson Company, Inc., and former Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Carlson is vice-chair.

The search committee also includes several U faculty and staff, and business leaders in Minnesota following:

• Bruce Beckman, chief financial officer of General Mills, Inc. and former chairman of the board of Carlson old

• Lynn Casey, CEO and president of Padilla Speer Beardsley

• Reath Clark King, former president and executive director of the General Mills Foundation

• Judy Corson, co-founder of Custom Research, Inc.

• James Lawrence, CEO of Rothschild North America and a member of the Board of Supervisors Carlson

• Jeffrey Noddle, Chairman of the Executive's retirement Supervalu, Inc., and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Carlson

The university said the search process will take place during the fall and winter, and the school hopes to name the next dean in March Carlson.

"After consultation with the University President Eric Kaler and those within and beyond the community Carlson, including local business leaders, we all agree that the new Dean of Carlson School must continue and expand its excellence a large momentum, and outstanding progress, "Sullivan said in a statement.

Alison Davis-Blake, who served as dean of the Carlson School of Management U of nearly five years, announced in February his intention to leave his post to become dean of the University of Michigan Business School, a gesture that took effect Monday.

Sri Zaheer is currently the interim dean of the Carlson School. Zaheer on appointing interim dean, U said it would choose the search committee after the arrival of its new president, Eric Kaler, who began work on July 1.
