The Jewel of Shinas welcomed

MUSCAT — The Jewel of Shinas, one of two bulk carriers commissioned for Sohar Aluminium and owned by Oman Shipping Company, arrived from Gove, Australia on its maiden voyage to Sohar recently. The carrier, seen here berthed at Sohar Aluminium’s port facility in Sohar, is a five-hatch Supramax bulk carrier dedicated to the carriage of alumina and petroleum coke for Sohar Aluminium for a period of 15 years. Present at the maiden visit was Henk Pauw, Chief Executive Officer Sohar Aluminium and Nicolas Visscher, Chief Executive Officer — Oman Shipping Company. The officials welcomed the vessel and enjoyed a tour of the ship. The first vessel commissioned for Sohar Aluminium was delivered in May 2011. The second The Jewel of Sohar is expected to be delivered during the first quarter of 2012.

With exclusive access to more than 2000 key players in oil & gas, power, manufacturing, shipping, transport infrastructure and finance sectors, the five-in-one event dedicated to the transport, shipping and logistics sectors (TransOman) is all set to take place from October 24 to 26 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre. TransOman seeks to lift the logistics discipline in Oman and maximize on its growth potential in the upcoming years.

The event will bring to light industry issues, discover the latest trends, connect and do business with various service providers in the air, road, rail, shipping, customs, cargo and logistics businesses, connecting Oman, the rest of the region and beyond.

With the aim to promote Oman’s potential as the next Middle East logistic hub and gateway to the world, every year the TransOman Conference brings together more than 200 leading local and international logistics and supply chain practitioners. A Conference on the country’s premier logistics & supply chain under the theme of “Oman: Building a World Class Logistics & Supply Chain” will be held on October 24 at Golden Tulip Seeb. The conference attempts to allow various organizations to examine their current supply chain and logistics models in order to meet their client’s demand, ensure growth and maximize the efficiency of road, air, sea and soon rail links as well.
