Kid stuff
Today
Jazz daddy: The rare Father’s Day weekend activity that’ll keep the whole family entertained, Brooklyn’s Best Jumpin’ Jazz Fest, at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, will get dads and kids in the swing. Events include live music by saxophonist Tia Fuller from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Free with admission ($7.50 per person). 145 Brooklyn Ave., at St. Marks Avenue; 718-735-4400.
Surf and turf: Rock, Rock, Rockaway Beach is the place to be when the fifth annual Rockstock and Barrels fest takes over the boardwalk, mixing music with a surf contest and skate jam. It’s all about the boards! 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Rockaway Beach Boardwalk, at 90th Street, Queens.
Tomorrow
Fun with father: Get into the friendly, competitive spirit with Dad on the Intrepid during the Father’s Day celebration aboard the aircraft carrier. Dads and kids can participate in egg-in-spoon relays, potato-sack races and balloon tosses on the flight deck. 12-1 p.m., free with museum admission. Pier 86 at 46th Street and 12th Avenue, 212-245-0072; intrepidmuseum.org.
Key players: In a sort of DIY approach to al fresco summer music, the nonprofit Sing for Hope has set up 88 pianos around the city to be played by anyone who’s so inclined. After their public display, the “Pop-Up Pianos” will be donated to schools and hospitals in two weeks. Tomorrow’s Pop-Up Concerts will take place at Bryant Park and in Times Square, among other locations. Check pianos.singforhope.org/events for details.
Dream team: Think of it as a midsummer afternoon’s dream: PLG Arts’ adaptation of the Shakespeare classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” now in its sixth year, puts a site-specific (now at Prospect Park) spin on the tale, and mixes construction workers with fairy royalty. 2 p.m., free. Prospect Park’s Imagination Playground, Ocean Avenue between Lincoln Road and Parkside Avenue, 718-393-7733.
