Creative triple threat Triple Canopy —the online magazine, workspace, and platform for editorial and curatorial activities—is gearing up to move into a new home at 155 Freeman Street in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. Come September, the nonprofit will be joined by Light Industry (a hub for film and electronic art) and The Public School (an open-source, curriculum-free classroom). A Kickstarter campaign is underway to raise cash for the first year of programming in the new, 1,500-square-foot space, which will “will act as a cinema, classroom, publication studio, and venue for performances, readings, workshops, and whatever else we happen to be cooking up in a given week,” according to Triple Canopy. Now in its final days, the project has already surpassed its $20,000 goal—incentive artworks by the likes of R. H. Quaytman and Paul Chan helped to push it over the top—but you have through July 10 to chip in and help them get a headstart on year two (they’ve signed a five-year lease, after all). Plus, a pledge of $50 will get you a “limited-time digital-download project” by none other than Cory Arcangel , who will e-mail it to you personally.
Earlier this week, we had a post up entitled “ A Look Inside Peter Zumthor’s Serpentine Pavilion ,” which referred to the now-open, annual, starchitect-designed temporary structure in London’s Hyde Park. In months prior, we’d also written posts entitled “ Sneak Preview of Peter Zumthor’s Serpentine Pavilion ” and “ Peter Zumthor Next In Line to Design the Serpentine Pavilion .” The notable constant there, of course, is the repetition of Peter Zumthor’s name. He is the famous architect who designed the place, of course, but as anyone who has seen the space in person or simply read about and looked at it online, you’ll no doubt remember that the emphasis of the Pavilion is on the large garden, flanked by the architect’s modern walls. Having seen images and video of said garden, even if Zumthor is a remarkable amateur landscaper, we’re sure he’s not that good. Fortunately, the Telegraph has filed this great story on the man responsible the garden , who perhaps won’t receive anywhere near the attention Zumthor will for the project, but based on the initial reviews, clearly deserves it. Not that he really needs any more, as the architect went with the best: Piet Oudolf , the landscape artist behind such projects as the Lurie Garden in Chicago’s Millennium Park and the High Line in New York. So perhaps we oversold it, that this poor, already super-famous plant expert was playing second fiddle, but what can you do? We got you interested and now you can go read up on Oudolf’s experience working on the Serpentine and then you can show off in front of all your friends at this weekend’s barbecues how knowledgeable and cosmopolitan you are. Or not.

Shirley & Bonnilass, You can rent or buy from Amazon.com. I own Back Up Plan, Oyster Farmer, August Rush & Moonlight. Waiting to buy H50 as soon as it’s released. Can’t get enough Alex !! But it’s better if you take it slow cause you just might OD !! Alex is such an awesom actor. Maybe one day CBS will wake up !! Thx for the post…
I’d love to buy the whole Moonlight series, but then I think I’d watch it too often and it wouldn’t be special. I’ll just get it from the library when I get a hankerin’ for Alex and vampires. Plus I think my husband would wonder why I’ve got all of these Alex shows! I got Osyter Farmer and Mary Bryant from the library as well some months ago. I had already seen August Rush, The Invisible and White-out previously, but I got them again from the library to compare his acting style through the years. I just can’t watch Feed though. Library has it, but I just don’t think I could get through it. Saw some interviews he did afterwards to promote it, and apparently that’s Australian humor–very dark. Still I just can’t bring myself to do it. Has anyone seen it and not lost the Alex obsession?
Pamela: Alex’s work in Mary Bryant is brilliant. You must watch the mini-series. It’s quite long but in hour-long segments. It truly is one of his best works, and it’s a shame that it’s not shown on U.S. TV.
I wish he was offered more substantial projects of this ilk so that he could show his talent. I get so tired of reading how he’s just a pretty face and has no talent. Obviously these critics haven’t seen Mary Bryant. I think they are overly critical of him because of his looks.
Shirley, I have the Feed movie and only watched it once. The movie itself was a little (maybe a lot) disturbing. I always love to see Alex but in this movie he has blond hair and a shaved chest. As much as I love him this just was not a good look for him. His acting was fabulous in this movie and the scene where he bared all and we got a shot of his backside definately made it worth watching.
Thanks again Tiffany for giving us another shot of #1 Man Alex–who wouldn’t want to be in that girl’s place during the photo shoot? I have been renting MOONLIGHT from Netflix, and I get it delivered to my door in 2 days. Hope Alex has time to make more movies along with the 5-O work–I just can’t get enough of that man !!!!!
