Upon opening the device I was impressed. The UI for selecting games was very nicely laid out. One of the things that stood out most, however, were the apps. Glorious, glorious apps like those found in my iPod Touch and Blackberry (that was a joke, Blackberries don’t have fun apps). The problem was that many of these, except some of the Nintendo produced ones like Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! First of all, the 3DS eShop is an absolute joy: everything is laid out in a way that is a mix of XBox Live Arcade and the App Store. Games are organized clearly and quality products are highlighted. Nintendo is clearly making sure things are kept up-to-date on the system, as all of their 3DS E3 videos were up promptly after their press conference. It even has a wish list mode and Game Boy Virtual Console (finally!) Worked into this system are the DSiWare titles I missed, so I downloaded them and took a spin.
