GWINNETT GAB: Murphy re-elected as GSBA director

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mary Kay Murphy was recently re-elected for a three-year term as the District 5 director to the Georgia School Boards Association Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is comprised of the president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, immediate past president and a director from each of the 14 GSBA districts in Georgia.

The board is responsible for managing the affairs and business transactions of the Association and employing the executive director. 

Murphy has served as GSBA District 5 director since 2005, a system delegate to the GSBA Delegate Assembly, a legislative liaison and on the National School Boards Association Federal Relations Network.

Murphy was elected to the Gwinnett County Board of Education in 1997.

Bar association receives awards

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett County Bar Association was honored with the Award of Merit, Best Newsletter Award, Law Day Award of Achievement and Best Website Award for voluntary bar associations of 251 to 500 members, presented during the annual meeting of the State Bar of Georgia in June.

The Award of Merit, presented annually by the Local and Voluntary Bar Committee of the State Bar of Georgia, recognizes voluntary bar associations for their dedication to improving relations among local lawyers and devoting endless hours to serving their communities.

The Best Newsletter Award is presented to local and voluntary bars that provide the best informational source to their membership.

The Law Day Award of Achievement recognizes local bar associations for excellence in planning and carrying out activities in their respective communities to commemorate Law Day on May 1.

The Best Website Award is given to local and voluntary bar associations with websites that exemplify excellence in usefulness, ease of use, content and design in meeting the needs of the website’s targeted audience.

Organizations sponsor driving safety event

LOGANVILLE — According to the Centers for Disease Control, teen drivers are four times more likely to be involved in an automobile accident than adults.

To help drive the point home, fire and rescue staff simulated an auto collision. An air life helicopter landed in front of more than 100 teenagers at Loganville Christian Academy.

The New London School of Driving sponsored the event, along with the University of Georgia’s Traffic Injury Prevention Institute, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Georgia Department of Drivers Services and Loganville Christian Academy.

Originally when the phony online orders were being place they were very large orders and payment terms were with money orders, cashier's checks, and were larger than the amount of the order and the consultant was instructed to keep the "extra". Now, the theives are getting more clever. The orders are reasonable and the form of payment is "secure online" payment via a credit card by way of your Mary Kay Website. Many consultant's feel secure because the card can be processed before the product is shipped - wrong!! The credit card has been stolen and eventually the consultant can be liable to repay and charges that were incurred on that card after it was stolen, of course with no recourse regaining the product. I have heard consultants asking why the company doesn't "stake" out the addresses that these packages are being sent to because now it is an address in the States as oppossed to out of the country, but my guess is there is an address forward so it isn't being delivered to the address shown anyway and I am sure the PO Boxes change very frequently as well as the change of addresses. One thing I would like to point out, most of my serious new online customers, register on my website and for my newsletter, etc.... it isn't just the one online order. And certainly, if the order isn't local, why would they even bother dealing with someone so far away from them, let's be smart consultants!! If it looks to good to be true it probably is!
