Pulitzer-Winning Journalist Exposes Self as Illegal Immigrant: What Now?

Tonight we meet Jose Antonio Vargas, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has decided to expose himself as an illegal immigrant . Vargas came to the US as a 12-year-old but didn't find out until age 16 that he was here illegally. He says he spent 14 years working hard, trying to "earn" citizenship. But the pressure became too great. What do you think of his story? Should Vargas be allowed to stay in the U.S.?

I have listened to this guy concerning his statues. I'm surprised at him and our government. The problem with this is since he found out, he hasn't done any thing to get it corrected. That's first, second he asked the question what to do with the kids that are in schools. They shouldn't be there if their paper work is not in order. Next, almost every state and almost every city has an immigration office. They go there for help to get jobs, housing, medical care. But, NOT a green card that would make them legal in this country. They stay here and work, and get paid under the table most of the time, which mean no taxes going into our system. But when they get hurt or reach a certain age they want Social Security.

Then you have all these Immigrant that are legal in the government, talking about rights. Which one of those law books that they studied says it's o k to break the law, so that you can show the people in the U.S. that everyone is not a yard person, or babysitter.

Fran, I agree with what you are saying when it comes to illegal immgrants who want the same rights we have yet do nothing to contribute to our taxes! My question is kinda on a diffrent note... What about the illegal immigrants who ARE here and working illegally but use their real social security number and DO PAy TAXES! Don't think we need to make it easier for them to live here? I myself was born here but I know someone who wasn't and her status is illegal with an expired visa... She pays her taxes ... She does everything a "model" citizen is suppose to do... So if she gets caught here she will be deported.... We should be deported these idiot celebs who make millions and get away with not payinging taxes not contributing to the social secuirty bennefits for the elderly and disabled... We are going to loose social security because of these big macho millionaires who don't NEED to add because they are well off even when they are old..,

The point is that there are some who DO and they should get recognized! For sure this guy is going to get citizenship because he can pay the lawyers to fight for him! MONEY is the issue and if you are not rich you are a no one! Weather or not you were born here! This country was built on illegals and if we made the process easier we wouldn't have such a large amount of illegals...
