Only joshing. Woods returned earlier this year with their new album 'Sun & Shade' producing the kind of organic, folk influenced music which you would expect from a band called.. well, Woods .
The Brooklyn types relocated themselves upstate, taking their studio equipment with them. Getting out of the city, Woods have discovered a new lease of life which has allowed the band to experiment anew.
'Sun & Shade' is a pop album - albeit a deeply experimental one - blurred with primitive electronics.Released in March, Woods began what has become one of their busiest year to date.
Complete a UK tour, the group then confirmed plans for a single out. "Find empty" was recorded along with their latest album, with Woods are considering leaving the project cut LP.

This past Saturday was the 34th annual Spirit of the Woods Folk Festival, held in Brethren, Michigan. HNM was there, as always. (Rhonda hasn’t missed a festival in at least a decade!) The centerpiece of the festival is a full day of free live music, ranging from bluegrass to reggae. In case you missed this year’s festivities, here are videos of all of the acts that performed in the main stage.
It is tradition that the final act of the night plays under the park’s pavilion, which is perfectly shaped and sized for a band and a dance floor. (In the festival’s early years, and in some recent years, the dance band played waltzes and the like.) This year’s festival closer was Conga Se Menne, a Finnish reggae band from up in Marquette. They were awesome – it was impossible to sit still when they were playing. (In this video, please excuse me excusing the guy who was trying to get to the trash can I was standing in front of at around the 2:00 mark!)
We love the Spirit of the Woods Folk Festival, and look forward to coming back in 2012! Meanwhile, there are two summer concert series in Manistee to whet your musical thirst; Tuesdays at the First Street Beach Bandshell and Thursdays at the Jaycee’s Bandshell across the river from downtown.
