Thee Jaguar Sharks Release Album!
For Immediate Release:
Dec. 6, 2009 THEE JAGUAR SHARKS RELEASE SELF-TITLED SURF & GARAGE ALBUM! Thee Jaguar Sharks are happy to announce the release of their self-titled debut album. The twelve track album features Surf and Garage tunes that combine vintage sounds with a modern sheen. Guitarist Jim Miles, bassist Tony Robinson, and drummer Nick Pasco created the album at Phoenix, Arizona's Wahalla Music. It's a thrillride for surf kids, go-go dancers, and chopper riders--the songs take you from the deep sea to the rough and tumble road. Says Miles, "We wanted to conjure images of paranoid surfers and deluded Chinese bikers. We wanted to write songs about manta rays daydreaming under the sea." It also features covers of songs by surf heroes The Astronauts and Jan and Dean. The album is available in digital download or cd format. See their website, www.theejaguarsharks.com for more information. Attack!
This is Tony from Thee Jaguar Sharks blogging a bit about our show last night at The Ruby Room. What a night! I arrived a bit early and the place was empty, except for our friends Mark & Denise, Cortney & Jeff and our barkeeps. That soon changed as our show neared and the buzz started. The room filled, we hit just after 10 pm and the place started to really move; a great thrill for me at the end of our first song, Lobster Rumble, as the place exploded with applause and appreciation. Thanks fans! We really greased it that night playing very up tempo, which everyone seemed to love. I saw some cameras snapping and video rolling, so if anyone has any stored memories, I'd like to see them.
I had not heard Man About a Dog before, but I'm glad that I have now! Great sounds from this six-piece group. Their sound was a great complement to our surf tones; a little more rock oriented, but very classic and classy. I heard a story that their organist found his organ in the ditch out by Camp Verde. He must have done a great job fixing it up because the tone was choice, albeit a bit heavy in the mix.... but that's just my producer's ears working at all times. The crowd hung around because the sound kept 'em there.I was really happy to see Matt Wiser playing pedal steel with Man About a Dog. Matt provided some great work out at the Wahalla Music studios for The Wormwood Brothers and Dolphins Kill for Love recordings. He also plays regularly with Tierra del Fuego, a fine band that you should go see. Matt said great things about the TJS show and I feel pretty confident that if he didn't care for it he would have graciously said hello and left it at that. Thanks Matt! At times, Man About a Dog's singer sounded a bit like Springsteen and still other times, the band reminded me of early Stones, Overall the sound was very unique, though. Anyway... I just really liked their songs and their whole approach to the night.... Oh, and I loved the hollow-body bass, too! Word has it this was a fill-in drummer; who would've known?!? I was able to spend some time talking to my good friends Johnny & Becky Staub. It was great to see them out at our show and I hope to see them again. Look for their daughter, Chelsea, on J.O.N.A.S! on the Disney channel. Wish you could have come too, Chels! After Man About a Dog completed, Mark and I retired outside for a bit because Mark brought along a couple of great, tasty cigars. I was able to hear some of The Rebel Set's set from outside. The night wore on, though, and many people left for home or other parties, including my band mates. I was going to take off, too, and thought I would stay to hear the first song of the last band, The Incognitoes. These guys set up and came on stage wearing classic black masks, which was entertaining in its own right. They hit the first tune and I decided I'd get a martini and hang for the rest of their set because they were surf-pure; agressive drums and in-your-face guitar trills throughout many songs. I had a great time and can't wait to play the Ruby Room again. |
